The Usona Institute, founded by Promega, is a non-profit organization dedicated to studying psychedelics for the treatment of mental health disorders. In partnership with IDOR and the Pioneer Science initiative, the research investigates the therapeutic potential of these substances in neurological and psychiatric diseases, using models such as brain organoids — miniature versions of the human brain grown in the lab — to understand their effects on the nervous system.
The partnership has fostered innovation among Brazilian researchers, driving the development of new technologies for monitoring metabolites and biomarkers. Over the years, the initiative has supported researcher training in the field and helped strengthen a global research network, accelerating scientific discoveries and expanding international connections.
The collaboration continues today through the support of researcher Stevens Rehen, consolidating and deepening this research agenda between the Usona Institute, IDOR, and Pioneer Science, aiming to advance more precise and innovative approaches to mental health care.
