Sarafan ChEM-H (Stanford University)

About the institution and partnership

Sarafan ChEM-H is an innovation center at Stanford University (USA) built for the future of research. It bridges Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, and Medicine (the origin of the acronym) to understand life at the molecular level and apply that knowledge to improve human health. The faculty at Sarafan ChEM-H lead labs that tackle major human health questions such as cancer, aging, and infectious diseases.

Pioneer Science established a strategic collaboration with the Center, enabling Brazilian researchers to immerse themselves in innovative projects. One of the featured projects investigates next-generation antiviral therapies focused on the viral RNA of emerging arboviruses Chikungunya, Mayaro, and Oropouche. This research is led by Victor Geddes, who completed his postdoctoral work under the supervision of Dr. Jeffrey Glenn, the renowned Stanford virologist and gastroenterologist, and now serves as PI at Pioneer Science’s laboratory at IDOR in São Paulo.
