D’Or Institute for Research and Education

Founded in 2010 in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), the D’Or Institute for Research and Education (IDOR) is a global, non-profit organization that aims to contribute to the evolution of science, in order to improve the condition of human life. For this, it combines cutting-edge research, professional training and technological development in healthcare. Its major funding sponsor is Rede D’Or São Luiz (RDSL), the largest private network of hospitals and medical centers in Brazil.

Since its creation, IDOR has valued science and has been attentive to Brazil's health needs, mobilizing its resources and encouraging its researchers to seek solutions to current and future problems. In this way, the Institute has made important contributions to national and international public health, such as in understanding the role of the Zika virus in nervous system malformations and in research aimed at fighting the covid-19 pandemic.

Federal University of Minas Gerais

The UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil) is considered one of the best educational institutions in the world by several international indexes. Founded in 1927, the oldest university in the state of Minas Gerais is today a national leader in teaching, extension, culture, scientific research and patent generation, in several areas of knowledge.

Its community brings together around 72K people in the cities of Belo Horizonte, Montes Claros, Diamantina and Tiradentes, which are organized around 91 undergraduate courses, 90 graduate programs and 860 research centers.

In fulfilling its teaching, research and extension objectives, UFMG maintains academic, scientific, technological and cultural cooperation with national and international institutions and constitutes a vehicle for regional, national and world development.

Innovative Genomics Institute

The Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) is a joint effort between two of California’s leading scientific research institutions, UC Berkeley and UC San Francisco, with affiliates at UC Davis, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Gladstone Institutes, and other institutions.

Together, our scientists have powerful combined expertise and conduct world-class research, including CRISPR genome editing, delivery, diagnostics, applications of genome editing in human health, climate, and agriculture, as well as the ethics and public impact of genome editing technology. Our early achievements include improving the efficiency of gene editing and foundational work toward a treatment for sickle cell disease.

Weizmann Institute of Science

Established in 1934 in Rehovot, Israel, the Weizmann Institute of Science is one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary basic research institutions in the natural and exact sciences.

Comprised of 250 experimental and theoretical research groups across five faculties — Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Physics —, WIS has a long history of investigation and discovery rooted in a mission of advancing science for the benefit of humanity. Insights that emerge from its labs help provide a fundamental understanding of the human body and the universe, and lead to advances in medicine, technology, and the environment.

The institute is home for around 3,800 scientists, postdoctoral fellows, Ph.D. and M.Sc. students, and scientific, technical, and administrative staff. As of 2019, six Nobel laureates and three Turing Award winners have been associated with the Weizmann Institute of Science.

Quantum Biology Tech Lab at UCLA

Founded in 2019 and fearlessly led by quantum engineer and UCLA's Electrical and Computer Engineering assistant professor Clarice D. Aiello, the Quantum Biology Tech Lab (QuBiT) is a place for quantum engineers interested in how Quantum Physics informs Biology at the nanoscale. QuBiT Lab brings quantum instrumentation into the field of biology and uses high tech experiments to try and prove/disprove that the quantum realm influences life's mechanisms.

Sarafan ChEM-H at Stanford University

Stanford University's Sarafan ChEM-H is a hub of innovation built for the future of research. It bridges Chemistry, Engineering, Biology and Medicine (that's where it gets its acronym from) to understand life at a molecular level and apply that knowledge to improving human health. Faculty at Sarafan ChEM-H lead labs that tackle big problems in human health, such as cancer, aging, and infectious disease.

At Sarafan ChEM-H, the diversity of people is as important as the diversity of disciplines. That's why it's committed to recruiting and fostering a scientific community whose diversity reflects that of society. Through interdisciplinary programs, it aims to train the next generation of molecular scientists, who are fluent in multiple scientific languages to transform our approach to human health, pioneer new basic science discoveries, develop breakthrough diagnostics and therapeutics, and revolutionize healthcare.

Usona Institute
